Sharp dance moves, smooth vocals and a powerful message. Usher’s new music video for his song “Numb” leaves us feeling anything but.

In his video that was released Thursday night, Usher sings about fighting through the pain to end up better and stronger on the other side. We see tragic hospital scenes, a flashback of him not being able to perform at a Berlin concert in 2011, and dancing inside a literal glass box. We see scenes with his sons at the kitchen table, as he struggles with his personal identity.

In the vid, Usher says he felt like a “failure, hopeless, paralyzed, lonely.” But in the end, we see him break through the glass walls surrounding him. As Usher sings, “life is a battlefield, but bring it on.” Watch the inspirational music video
