Hip-hop soulster
Link gained a contract with Relativity Records after he wrote the Top Five hit "My Body" for
LSG, the R&B supergroup formed by
Gerald Levert,
Keith Sweat, and
Johnny Gill. Born
Lincoln Browder in Dallas,
Link was active in gospel choirs and formed his own a cappella group while still a teenager. He was later recruited by R&B impresario
Darrell "Delite" Allamby for a quartet named
Protégé; when the group split up,
Link kept working with
Allamby. The duo wrote several songs with collaborator
Antoinette Roberson, including "My Body," and when
LSG began searching for a lead single, they looked no further. The track became a sizable hit, and, soon enough,
Link debuted with his own recording, 1998's
Sex Down. He also wrote tracks for
Silk and
Kut Klose, plus
Levert and
Gill's solo careers.
