If a diverse anthology of banjo-driven folk music is what you're after, this is an excellent choice. Besides folkies like
Eric Weissberg,
Marshall Brickman, and
Mike Seeger, it has contributions by a few unexpected names like
Roger McGuinn (who offers a "Banjo Cantata"),
David Lindley, hot country and rock sessionman
Joe Maphis, and
Mason Williams (
Classical Gas). Selections by less celebrated names like
Jim Helms and
Dick Weissman round out the collection, the major strike against it being the near-total lack of source information in the liner notes, which don't give any of the original session dates.
