Satori is Crystal Michelle Rayburn and Barry Stramp, one of the founding members of Coyote Oldman. Stramp contributes his bamboo flutes, guitar, voice, computer and sound treatments, while Rayburn plays synthesizers, keyboards, samples and drones. Invisible Rhythms is a gentle, though sometimes discordant, album of primitive rhythms and drones. Stramps' flutes play a big part in the sound sculptures. The breath through the flutes often creates a buzz wind on top of the harmonic drone resonances of the instruments. On "The Circular Valley," this drone is contrasted to a percolating rhythm and two mournful brass horns in slightly sour harmonies. "Relocations" offers rhythms that sound like tuned Coke bottles. Drones morph from rhythms, beats seep from primitive sound sculptures, animal roars bellow from canyons, ocean waves stir the subconscious. Invisible Rhythms taps deep organic undercurrents of trance and primitive dreams. Relaxing for those who are comfortable enough to adventure in the world of shadows.
