Only three of
Karyn White's charting singles are missing from
Superwoman: The Best of Karyn White, but none of them ("Do Unto Me," "Slow Down," "Walkin' the Dog") cracked the R&B Top 20, so the disc is near faultless. When it comes to female singers who worked extensively with
Jimmy Jam,
Terry Lewis, and
Babyface,
White tends to be forgotten -- which is understandable, given the star power of
Janet Jackson,
Mariah Carey, and
Toni Braxton -- but most of her hits were all over radio during the late '80s and early '90s, and they have held up quite well. The likes of "Secret Rendezvous," "The Way You Love Me," "Romantic," and "Love Saw It" are just as appealing as any four songs from
White's more popular contemporaries. A pair of decent but unremarkable cuts recorded in 2006 are thrown into the mix.
